I feel kind of guilty; I’ve created a WordPress theme that steps out of the BrightCherry norm. It’s a theme that doesn’t have a single piece of fruit in the lime light, whereas all our previous themes have been based on a fruity treat.

Since we are BrightCherry, we planned on focusing all our themes on a fruity palette. Oh well. It was actually created for a friend, but I decided to make it public instead.

Anyways, here’s our non-fruity theme, “Fresh Editorial”.

Free WordPress Theme- Fresh Editorial

It’s available to preview and download over at WordPress.

As per, if anyone requires any technical support, just holla.

Apologies, due to my high volume of workload, I can no longer offer free support for any of the free WordPress themes i’ve released. Support is only available at an hourly rate- more details can be found on the Services page. Once again, I apologise.

    I really like the theme, but it created chaos of my header when I tried to use it. Categories and pages all over the place; what a mess! Any advice?

    Hi Edward,

    Is the theme still live? If you show me the affects, i’ll be able to fix the problems for you..

    Kind regards

    No, because of the chaos it makes on the header.

    But, might we schedule a time that I could switch it over for your diagnosis?

    I’m cross-posting this from my site here:

    It seems to be working now. I must have tried when you were updating the files. I know I tried a few times over a 3-5 minute period. I even tried again after I saw that it worked in IE before deciding it was a FF3 problem. On to the dynamic sidebar, I’d love to use the theme with widgets. I think the sidebar.php file is missing a statement like this:

    However, when I put it in, the css style is out of whack. And the categorut ies are a bit out of sorts as well. I have waaaayyy to many categories to actually display, so I could go in to the header.php file and limit the level to show, but I’m afraid there are still too many to be dealt with properly. They start to go over and under the header graphic. In IE, they stretch across the top and then begin to fill the sidebar, pushing intro & actual sidebar further down the page.

    Hi,

    I’m using your Theme on my Blog http://www.thombl.de and got some Problems with the Commentfunction. If somebody tries to leave one for me an pushs the submit button the Page tries to load i2.ytimg.com but then nothing happens. There is no comment in the moderate section and I’m not able to find out why this is like that. I would be very glad if you can help me.
    Thx Thommy

    Hey Thommy,

    I’m aware of the problem. I’ve actually fixed the bug in the latest version. If you download the theme again (Version 1.8) and upload only the comments.php file, the problem should be fixed.

    Let me know how you get on.

    Kind regards.

    I love the theme. Id really like to get the dynamic sidebar working with widgets. Do you have plans to implement that. I’ve attempted to do it myself unsuccessfully.

    Thanks for a great theme.

    Hey Fish,

    Thanks for your comment.

    I’ve just uploaded a new version of the theme, which will support widgets.

    It may take a day or two to get approved by WordPress. But look out for version 1.9.

    Many thanks

    Slight bug with lists in Citrus Mix & Strawberry Blend themes…

    I’m showing an unordered list on a page (http://thesimplewebcompany.com/templates/design13/) at the end of the page, but no bullets are showing to the left of each line, as you would expect (using Internet Explorer) – but Firefox shows these as “>>”. As many of my readers use IE, could you let me know how I can fix this?

    Many thanks
    Tracey

    30/09/2008

    Hey Tracey,

    Yeah, that effect won’t work in I.E. The default WordPress theme has the same issue. It’s a known problem.

    Do you know CSS? The problem can’t be fixed, however, there are alternative solutions available, but it would mean modifying the CSS stylesheet.

    Kind regards

    Hi Maruf
    I really like the look of this theme, but I want to shrink the height of the header. I edited the background image to reduce the size of the colored portion while keeping the lighter part a the bottom where the categories are displayed the same. What do I need to change in the CSS to move the rest of the page content up?

    Thanks!

    Hi:
    i have installed it and edited the CSS to insure the theme work for RTL language.
    but i had a problem from the beginning.

    the site was not showing the side bar boxes.

    i don’t know what’s wrong…

    my site:
    http: // t17.biz /ar ( remove spaces please )

  17. Maruf
    07/10/2008

    Hey Tarek,

    I have no idea what’s going on there. It appears as though the theme has completely broken. I’ve never seen a theme being translated into a different language.

    The theme actually looks back-to-front, so i’m assuming you changed a core property in the CSS.

    I’m not entirely sure how to help here because you have modified the original code.

    If you upload the original version (unmodified), I may be able to help.

    Kind regards

  18. Tarek
    07/10/2008

    thank you for your prompt response, i have uploaded the original style again, and it is installed, and having the same problem.

  19. Maruf
    07/10/2008

    Hey Tarek,
    It’s extremely difficult for me to fix this problem because I don’t have access to your files. However, I think if you put the following divs around your widgets, it may fix it:

    [code lang=”html”]

    insert widget code

    [/code]
    However, that might not work. The theme was designed to work with the plugins it comes with, any additional widgets will require CSS/HTML modification.

    Kind regards

  20. Tarek
    07/10/2008

    how to use the original plugins? what do i need to install?

  21. Maruf

    Just uninstall the widgets. The theme should work fine after that!

  22. Tarek

    Hi Maruf,

    Just found out that comments aren’t working. I tested on the default theme and it worked fine, but when I reapply FE the submit button doesn’t do anything. Check it out here: http://www.pauldeluca.com/writenow/

    Any ideas? Thanks!

  24. Maruf
    07/10/2008

    Hey Paul,

    Yeah, it’s an old bug that I fixed quite a while ago. All you need to do is download the latest version of the theme from WordPress and upload the “comments.php” file, overwriting the old one. That should fix it.

    Let me know how you get on.

    Cheers

    Hi, I really like this theme for my health blog, but I’m kinda new to all this and have a question. Here is the url: http://www.healthandremedies.com/watch-out-for-cancer-moles
    at the bottom where the links are highlighted, how do I make them black like the rest of the text? I looked in stylesheet.css and couldn’t find the “alink” code to change. Can you help me?

    thank you,

  28. Maruf
    10/10/2008

    @bridges

    I’ll get that sorted next week 🙂

    .entry a{

    }

    Hi there! i love the theme, but I am also having issues with the comments not showing up under the posts. when I switch out of this theme and into another they show up, but not here 🙁 I have re downloaded the newest 1.9 Fresh editorial, and updated the comments page. However, I’m still not able to see comments. My blog is at:

    Hi Pam,

    Anywhere in the stylesheet will be fine.

  33. Ann
    17/10/2008

    Oh, I see. It disappears if you use any widgets whatsoever. Most people are going to use widgets. Can you code it so that it keeps the RSS when you add widgets, or make it an option somehow?

  34. Ann
    17/10/2008

    Sorry to post three in a row. I’m using FF on Mac OS and also Safari. It appears that the sidebar is not rendered properly when widgets are used. They just pile up on each other instead of flowing in a vertical column. Also there don’t appear to be any styles applied to the widgets in the sidebar.

    Otherwise it’s a nice theme.

  35. Maruf
    17/10/2008

    Hey Guys,

    I’ve updated the theme. Hopefully I’ve fixed the RSS/Widgets problems people have been experiencing.

    Here is the latest version, please let me know if it works better for you.

    Fresh Editorial-1.10

  36. Ann
    17/10/2008

    Hi,

    This works better (the sidebar layout issue is fixed and the RSS image is there now with widgets).

    For the sidebar, it would give more flexibility if the widgets started right after the RSS image instead of hard coding the calendar, about, and recent posts in.

    I don’t suppose you could “widgetize” the bottom where the blogroll, meta, and archive are listed?

    I could probably figure out how to do this myself, but I think others will probably want the same features.

    In any case, thank you for releasing the theme (I’ve tried making my own, so I *do* appreciate how much work goes into making them) and thank you for helping all of us troubleshoot.

    Dear Maruf,

    thank you very much for the great theme which I implemented on http://www.lemken-hoch2.de

    Unfortunately I have a problem with adding new pages to the blog. In the preview the new page is being displayed corretyl. After publishing it the new link in the upper right navigation unfortunately not links to the new page but to the main page (example: “Impressum” on my blog). Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    many thanks in advance, kind regards

    03/11/2008

    Hey Thomas,

    No one has ever had this problem before from what i’m aware of, so I’m assuming you have a problem with in your settings.

    I suspect it’s either a htaccess problem or a linking issue.

    Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to help unless I logged into your account and looked at your settings. But my *guess* is the solution is somewhere in your “permalink” options.

    Kind regards

    Ooops, I just discovered that my problem seem sto be bigger as all (!) links lead to the main page again – including the RSS link, the category links etc.

    Hi Maruf,

    I just downloaded this theme for my blog http://www.simplisticthoughts.com. I have a lot of categories and so they are running down into the picture. Is there any way to fix this?

    I also noticed that any widgets I add myself all end up in one box. Is there a way to separate them into separate boxes.

    Great work on this theme by the way. It is very nice.

  42. Maruf
    10/11/2008

    Hey Nick,

    Unfortunately the theme isn’t designed to handle so many categories. What I can suggest is to change the list type into a dropdown. So, all the categories will be populated in a dropdown menu.

    All you need to do is change

    < ?php wp_list_categories('title_li='); ?>

    to

    < ?php wp_dropdown_categories(); ?>

    In the header.php file.

    Kind regards

    Hey there, I love the theme. I want to have my title/image at the top and omit the image below. I realize I’ll have to ditch the “home” and “about” buttons which is fine. Is this easy to do? I’ve been messing around with little luck. My blog is http://www.deniseesser.com/travelblog

    Thanks so much! This theme is awesome!

    11/11/2008

    Hi Maruf,

    Thanks for your help. I decided I had to many catagories and have condensed them to make them work with the theme.

    The one thing I would like to do though is make it so each widget I add shows up as a separate box with borders the way the ones you have pre added does. Is this possible? If I add more than one widget they all show up in one box.

  45. Maruf
    12/11/2008

    @Denise,

    Do you want to strip the entire black/red header? Just want to be precise with the details before I give you duff advice 🙂

    @nick,

    Hmmm..it should be possible, but it would mean modifying the structure of the sidebar. I’d have to play around with it, to be honest. And at the moment I don’t have time, but i’ll have a look at some point next week.

    Sorry I couldn’t be of more immediate help.

    Kind regards

  46. Denise
    13/11/2008

    Thanks for the reply, Maruf. Ultimately I would love my image (which I would widen) to be the header. Then I’d like the blog entry to just be moved up with no picture where it currently is. Make sense?

    Otherwise, if I am being too high maintenance then just shrinking the black header strip would be my second choice.

    Thanks again…love the theme!

    Hi, I’m using your theme for my blog http://communicationinsider.com and I like it a lot. Just wondering, is it possible to change the image? If so, how?

  50. Maruf
    25/11/2008

    Hi Christina,

    The site looks great- I like the red links.

    To change the image just go into the theme folder, and look in the images folder. All you need to do is replace the mainimage.jpg file to whatever image you want.

    Try to keep the image the same dimensions for best results.

    I hope that helps.

    Hey Maruf,

    I was wondering how to add code to the sidebar so my blogroll from the WP template I was using before can be added. When I try to paste the code in the sidebar.php, the RSS, recent posts, about, calendar, and tag cloud widgets disappear. I tried adding the code before the widget code and after, but each time I did, all the widgets above disappeared — leaving a blank sidebar. If you need to see my site, here it is: http://www.pykorry.com

    Download the latest version (2.1) from the top of the page.

    I modfied the following files:

    Hi Maruf,
    I am using this theme on my site EverythingAbercrombie.com and my trouble is that I cannot seem to get adsense to work with it. I have tried posting ads in both the sidebar and in the posts. To get around the direct code input, I have tried widgets such as AdRotator, but with no success. Could you please help me? I don’t understand why this will not work. Oh, and I have the most current version of Fresh Editorial.
    Thank you.

  57. Maruf
    01/12/2008

    Hey Jason,
    That wouldn’t be a theme issue. It might be that you have software installed that is blocking the code (e.g. firewall), or you’re using an old browser, or that you’re not using the right google adsense code.

    The best way to test is it is by creating an empty html page, posting in the code, and seeing if the ads generate.

    Kind regards

    Maruf,
    Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly, but I must contest that I used a simple skyscraper code in the sidebar. It did not show up, but when I changed my theme, the code was working and the adsense was there.
    Please, if there is anything that you can do, I will give you access to the site to look at it if you want.
    Fresh Editorial is my favorite theme and I do not want to use anything else.

    First of all, thank you so much for the fantastic theme. It’s perfect for me!

    My problem is a minor one, but given my lack of experience with php and css I’m not sure where to fix it. I’m in the US and my dates show up as DDMMYY. Is there a way to change it to MMDDYY? Even if it’s just on the commenting.

    I appreciate any help you might have for me 🙂

    16/12/2008

    Hi,
    First of all, I’d like to thank you for this theme, I chose it to replace my old one on my blog, and I must recognize, it’s looking pretty good in my early test. I have just one little problem. I’d like to customize the main background, actually in grey, to place a background image instead. I think I must edit the body code in the CSS, but I can’t figure out a way to do it. Here’s the code:

    body {

    margin:0;

    padding:0;

    text-align:center;

    background:url(images/bg.gif) #eee repeat-x;

    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

    font-size:12px;

    }

    Actually, if I’m not mistaken the grey background is defined by #eee. I tried everything, each time, the image, replace everything including the bg.gif image at the top of the page. Hope you get what I mean.^^ Thanks in advance for your help, keep up the good work. Regards, Jeff

    18/12/2008

    Hey Jeff,

    I’m not entirely sure what you want. Apologies.

    Do you want to replace the speckled background image, with just a plain grey background?

    Also, can you provide a link to your blog, so I can get a better idea of what’s going on.

    Many thanks. Kind regards

  65. Jeff
    18/12/2008

    Thanks for your answer Maruf. Actually I found a solution yesterday. I realized that, to place two background images with my my poor knowledge in CCS was too hard. So I had the idea to create one big main background image. Then I fixed it with the code:

    background-attachement:fixed;

    That solved the issue at least for now. You can see on my blog what I’m trying to do. I want a “banner” at the top (the former speckled part) and a second pattern to be used as the rest of the background (the former grey part). Here’s the actual result: http://blueshirts.fr

    I hope that’s fine for you, I made some changes in comparison with the starting theme… Thanks anyway if you can provide me a solution. Regards,
    Jeff

    Maruf,

    Thanks for putting this theme together! I love it! I am relatively new to wordpress and only lightly familiar with html coding, but I was wondering if it was possible to change the default widgets in the right column and at the bottom of the page. My blog is http://www.frugalfranco.com if you want to take a look.

    Thanks,
    Franco

  67. Maruf
    19/12/2008

    Hey Franco,
    They’re not actually widgets, they’re standard WordPress features. If you want to remove them, you have to physically remove the lines of code from the scripts.

    You can find the lines in footer.php and sidebar.php.

    The code is pretty self-explanatry. For example, if you want to remove the blogroll from the footer, just remove the following line from the footer.php:

    And so on!

    Kind regards

  68. Maruf
    19/12/2008

    Hey April,

    Really sorry about the late response, just catching up all the support questions now.

    If you open comments.php, you’ll notice the following line in there somewhere:

    < ?php comment_date('d/m/Y') ?>

    All you need to do is modify it to the order you want:

    < ?php comment_date('m/d/Y') ?>

    Same principle applies to all other pages. The category page is archive.php, posts are single.php and the homepage is index.php.

    Hope that helps.
    Kind regards

    I was able to tweak the template by just trial and error code removal and restoration. I finally got the blogroll code to render AND was able to keep a couple of the widgets in place.

    I’m still not sure how to create the little white box around the blogroll, but I guess I’ll just leave it be for now.

    But thanks for following up and for making this wonderful template!

    @Jeff,
    Is the links section a widget?

    @Zee
    Everything looks to be working fine…

    Hey Maruf,
    Yeah the links section is the basic widget coming with wordpress. I enabled it on the widgets page. I also uploaded the files from the latest version as you asked me, no changes.

    Hi Maruf,
    Love your theme.

    I too have many categories, so I wanted to make it a drop-down as you suggested in comment #43.

    But doesn’t work.

    Did I do something wrong or is there another solution?

    Thanks!

  80. Maruf
    23/12/2008

    Hey Chiwan,

    The code you’ve added looks wrong. Try this:

    < ?php wp_dropdown_categories(); ?>

    There shouldn’t be a space after the <, like you currently have. Kind regards

    thanks maruf!

    hmmm…

    i guess i used the wrong term.

    i guess i was wondering if it could drop down like…ajax’y. you know, if i hover over the main category, you can see the sub-categories drop down.

    like in this site from a previous poster: http://www.frugalfranco.com/

    when i hover over the second category, it “drops down” to show the sub-category.

    anyway, thank you SO much. you are awesome.

    Hello,
    I left a “scribble” earlier today but it disappeared…
    Anyway, what I want to do is change the color behind the ‘HOME’ and ‘ABOUT’ tabs at the very top of the page. How do I go about doing that?
    Thank you in advance for your time!
    Warmest regards,

    Maruf,
    Since I last wrote this, I actually need to do something different with the header. The link to the blog is
    http://superwomenbootcampblog.com/.
    What I want to do is center the logo in the header with some ‘padding’ around it. I can not seem to get it centered, as you will notice.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Amy

    13/01/2009

    Hey Amy,

    At a quick guess, I think if you replace this:

    #logo{
    background:url(‘images/superwoman_white_rev1.JPG’) no-repeat;

    with:

    #logo{
    background:url(‘images/superwoman_white_rev1.JPG’) no-repeat center;

    and add this line:
    margin:10px;

    That should centre the logo and give padding.

    let me know how you get on.

    Thanks!

    Amy,

    I just realised, you may need to increase the height property as well.

  87. Amt
    13/01/2009

    Thank you, Maruf. I got the logo centered but when I add the padding and increase the height, it pushes everything else on the page down. Do I need to increase the size of the header to remedy this?
    Thank you,
    Amy

    Hi Maruf,

    I have been using your theme now for a coupe months and I really like it, Thanks. I was thinking about putting in some add blocks (maybe 2×2 of 125 by 125ads) and was wondering how difficult it would be to increase the width of the sidebar. Right now it is at 195 correct? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  92. Maruf
    27/01/2009

    Hey Nick,
    It will be a bit of a trial and error process, to be honest. However, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

    From the top of my head, you’ll need to expand the following widths:
    #wrapper e.g change 850px to 950px (you’ll get an extra 100px)
    #content (whatever change you make to the wrapper width, make sure this element inherits the same width e.g 950px)
    #contentright e.g change 250px to 350px.
    #recentposts, #widgetsposts (make sure this is also kept inline with the #contentright width e.g 350px)

    Remember, the widths will need to add up. So for example, if you add an extra 100px to the wrapper, you’ll need to add an extra 100px to #contentright and #recentposts, #widgetsposts.

    Hope that all makes sense. Please let me know how you get on.

    Kind regards

    Manuf,

    is there a way to make one of the page buttons at the top a link to another site?

    Thanks.

  95. Maruf
    30/01/2009

    Hey Todd,
    yeah, just go into headers.php, and you’ll see:

    1

    <li><a href="<?php echo get_option('home'); ? rel="nofollow">/">Home</a></li>

    Underneath that, write something like this:

    1

    <li><a href="www.newsite.com/page" rel="nofollow">New page</a></li>

    You’ll see a new link at the top.

    Hope that helps.
    Kind regards

    Hi there. Any reason why this post alone (http://deniseesser.com/travelblog/?cat=5&paged=7) won’t show any navs, archives, widgets, or anything? It seems to be the only entry in my blog that does it and I’m beside myself!

    Hey Maruf, the theme is great! It looks like it is popular enough that maybe the next edition could include a fully widgetized sidebar so each person could organize it to fit their needs?

    I know that’s the only thing holding me back at this point, but I’ve seen some others with the knowledge customize it better.

    Thanks for the theme, keep us updated on a new release!

    There is a way to only show parent categories, but it involves a bit of coding (not sure how much you know). here’s how to do it:

    Hi there,

    First, thank you so much for such a great theme.

    I’m really struggling getting Google Analytics working. Is there a trick I’m missing? All my other plug ins are working beautifully.

    Thanks again for an awesome theme!

    Hi Maruf,

    Still loving the theme, but I have noticed that all of my categories from the top are gone. There is just one that says “no categories”. I haven’t really made any changes to the site in a while. I also tried disabling all the plugins, but that didn’t work. Any ideas?

    Seems like the support on this theme has fizzled out.

    I am trying to incorporate this theme’s comments.php into wordpress 2.7 in order to thread replies.

    Please give me a holler if you’ve figured this out! It’s a real brain twister for me!

    Furthermore, is there anyway I could insert Slideshow function to the sidebar?
